Today I have been working on an article about mixing up the subjects your photograph when your travelling. It's a lovely sunny day today so I decide to go out for a nice long walk. I take my Cannon 450d. I'm a portrait photographer and love photographing people. Today on the theme of 'mixing up your travel photos', I decide to restrict myself to take no photos of people. This is straight forward but not as easy as I first thought. The first photo I take is of a sign outside a Wat, (Buddhist Temple), I review my photo and notice some people in the back ground. I rethink my strategy. Along the way I photograph little things, close up. Making a rule that I can't photograph people is great. I have got some really good shots and it has made me look at a lot of things I hadn't noticed before. This is the same walk I have taken almost everyday for the past three months! Here are a few photographs I took today.
Fruit is so photogenic and can bring colour to any photograph. In this photograph of banannas I zoomed in close to fill the frame. I used a small F/stop 4.8 to give a shallow depth of field. To get the correct exposure I use a shutter speed of 1/125.
These sacks of rice make really great geomentric lines. Simple things like bags of rice are great things to photograph as they are so important to the country of Thailand. 1/320 sec, F/stop 2.8.
In this photo I have two things that sum up Thailand. The countries flag and the millions of overhead power cables. The flag with the sun behind it adds bright colour and contrast to the image and the black cables give the photograph interesting lines and context. 1/320 sec, F/stop 2.8.
Today's Tip: When your out taking photographs give yourself a mini project. This may be, 'Don't take people Photos' Or 'Only Photograph orange objects'. This will help you breath fresh life into your photos and give you a burst of new inspiration. Good luck and have fun!
