Researching a Photography Trip

One of the most import things that you need to do before you embark of a photography trip has nothing todo with your camera, lenses, or any of your equipment. One of the most important things, in order to capture some amazing photographs, is to research your trip.

The amount of planning and time you put into researching the things that you want to photograph before you go, will dramatically increase the quality and number of photographic opportunities you will encounter.

When researching, it is vital to write a photo list. A list of all the things that you want to photograph. You probably wont be able to photograph all your ideas on the list but you wont miss anything really important. You will need a photographs note book.

Reading anything you can find about the place you are visiting will help you build a comprehensive picture before you get there. Travel magazines, the travel section in Sunday newspapers, the internet, and of course guide books are rich with information.

Looking at other travel photographers work should be a good percentage of your research. Not only will photographs give you a detailed image of the country but you can also draw a lot of inspiration from other photographers. Looking at other photographs will also help you write your photo list. Its also an idea to note down cliche angles and photographs that have been done too many times. Plan some of your photographs before you go, this will give you more variety and interest with minimum stress. Photo sharing websites like www.flickr.com and www.istockphoto.com are great for seeing what other photographs have photographed. Even typing the county or place you visiting into google.com will show you thousands of inspiring photos.

Word of mouth is also a great way of researching your destination. Ask around and see if any one you know has been to you destination. Always take what people say as opinion rather than fact. Every person will have a completely different experience.

Finally try are make a trip to your local library. Library's are always over looked these days but a absolutely rammed with books that will teach and inspire you about your travels and photography. You don’t have to be a member just don’t forget your note book to take notes.

Remember to write all your notes and research down in your photographers note book. Then don't  forget to take it with you on your travels!!
