Darren Lambert

I am an avid traveller, lover of the outdoors, and a keen surfer.

Where do you live?:
Right now I live in Thailand, but I grew up in Cornwall, England
What photographic opportunities are where you live?:

Thailand has endless photographic opportunities. Just sitting on my porch I can photograph intense flowers, people riding by, approaching monsoon rains, and much more.

I love taking photographs of beautiful sleepy landscape scenes, monks, and anything related to transport, such as moving trains and motorbikes.

Where in the world have you most enjoyed photographing?:

India offers endless photo snaps, but perhaps Nepal was my favorite. I saw and photographed temples I had dreamed about for years, and there are just so many of them. And then I traveled west, and couldn't resist snapping the Himalayas.

What made it so special to photograph?:

The colours, variety, and sheer difference from my normal surroundings.

What is it about photography and travel photography that most interests you?:

I love capturing moments with friends, and of memorable moments. But in terms of serious photography, I love trying to capture a snap of somewhere where few have been before, and for the picture to tell a story. Whether it's a girl selling fruit by the road, or a animal grazing in front of a mountain landscape.

Tell us about the most impressive photograph you have taken?:

I have a great shot of the Eiffel Tower at night, taken on a cheap digital compact.

I also took a great picture of a painting on a beach in Thailand, on my iPhone, which has a pretty poor camera. But it's a good shot.

Tell us about a missed photograph you wished you has taken?:

hmmm, probably a lot in India. I was too busy taking everything in.

For you, what makes a really great photograph?:

Capturing a moment, and telling a story.

What camera do you use and why?:

Now I used a Canon G7. I used a cheap Casio compact for years. But then found myself wanting more control and better quality. I wanted to the quality and control of an SLRi, but didn't want the bulk of it, so a G7 (or newer G9 or G10) offers me that.
