Why travel Photography?
With my Mother being a professional photographer and my Grandfather a serious armature photographer plus my love for art, visual expressionism and question asking you can see why picture taking would interest me.
My first experience of travel was at the ripe old age of 6 months where my family, all 17 of us, went on holiday to Italy. Of course this was a trip that I can remember nothing of but I have vivid memories of looking at the photographs and being totally captivated at the difference in culture. I still love looking at those photographs today.
The first camera I owned was a Boots kids very simple compact 35mm film it was painted bright pink. This is when I started to record still images but it wasn't until I was 16 and on a school trip to Spain that I started having a really interest in travel photography.
I had always loved the idea of travel and was inspired by my grandfather tales of travel to amazing 'far away' places. So when at college studding photography, I took every opportunity I could to go photograph foreign places. The Greek islands, south west France, Spain and Cyprus are to name a few holidays I took.
In 2007 I met my boyfriend and gave up a place at Nottingham University to follow my dream of photographing the world. The hard work started, After the first six months of traveling I had well and truly caught the traveling bug.
I made the decision, whilst studying photography at college, to switch from film to digital with regard to my SLR. A Canon 400d digital SLR was the result of this decision. Sadly whilst traveling by train in Malaysia last year my beloved 400d was stolen, on the up side it meant I was able to upgrade to a Canon 450d, which is the camera I travel with now.
Since my first boots point and shoot camera I have owned a number of cameras including my very first SLR, a 1979 Olympus OM 10, a Nikon 35mm compact and a Kodak 3 mega pixel digital compact. Other cameras I own include a 1995 Polaroid and a Canon G7. I travel with my Canon 450d, OM10 and a Lumix DMC-TZ10.
So I hope you find the website interesting and helpful. I hope it inspires you to take great photographs.
I am currently travelling around Europe in a baby blue camper van.
Enjoy! xx
