Sun flare has always been a big no no in traditional photography, until recreantly. Lens Flare is a great way to add interest to your photographs and turn them in to a professional arty looking images.All you really need is the sun, which should be at your disposal when travelling, and your camera. There are a few simple rules to follow, but once you get the hang of it the Lens Flare effect can really enhance your photography.
Lens flare happens when strong rays of light directly from the sun hit your cameras lens. The light scatters and reflects in the lens giving you Lens Flare.
The Lens Flare effect is so simple so follow these 4 quick and easy steps and you will be amazed with the beautiful results.

Shoot into the sun. To get the sun rays to directly hit your lens you need to shoot straight into the sun. This will allow light from the sun to directly enter your lens and scatter giving your Lens Flare.

Shoot at an angle. To maximise the amount of sun rays directly hitting your lens you need to change the angle your shooting. This may mean in the midday sun, you need to get very low to the ground and shoot up.

Use your flash. Because your shooting into the sun, the subject will probably be a silhouette. Using your flash will bring out the detail of the subject. By using flash you will still achieve Lens Flare.

Focus. The automatic focus on your camera will focus on the object in the frame that is best lit. Shooting into the sun may make focusing a little more difficult. If your having real difficulty focusing on your subject simply switch to manual focus.
This effect is great and really fun to try out. You should remember, though you should never look at the sun directly though your camera lens or with the naked eye. Only glance quickly so you can get the correct composition.
